What the Red Tour covers

The Red Tour focuses on the sights clustered close to Goreme, so you spend more time exploring and less time on the road. It's a full day, usually around 9am to 5pm, with a guide and lunch included.

  • Goreme Open Air Museum — UNESCO-listed rock-cut churches and frescoes.
  • Pasabag (Monks Valley) — some of the most dramatic fairy chimneys.
  • Devrent (Imagination) Valley — wind-carved rock shapes.
  • Uchisar Castle viewpoint and a panoramic stop over Goreme.
  • Avanos — the pottery town on the Red River, often with a workshop demo.

What's included and what's extra

The tour fee covers your guide, transport and lunch. Site entrance fees and the optional pottery or carpet demonstrations are sometimes extra, so confirm before you book.

  • Included: English-speaking guide, hotel pick-up, lunch, transport between sites.
  • Often extra: Goreme Open Air Museum entry and the Dark Church supplement.
  • Bring: comfortable shoes, water, and cash for entry fees and tips.

How to book the Red Tour

Book a day or two ahead in peak season. If you're also doing the Green Tour, schedule the Red Tour first — it's the gentler introduction and orients you geographically before the longer southern day.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Red Tour worth it?
Yes — it's the most efficient way to see the headline northern sights with context from a guide, and excellent value compared with arranging taxis yourself.
Should I do the Red or Green Tour first?
Do the Red Tour first. It's shorter, closer to Goreme and introduces the landscape before the Green Tour's longer drive south to the underground cities.
